Single National Curriculum (SNC) has been developed by the Federal Government while taking onboard a 46 person committee including, but not limited to: provincial education departments, private schools, prominent scholars, universities, colleges, NGOs, minorities, educationists and international/ national examination boards.
What is SNC?
SNC is a curriculum document. Schools can define their own syllabus in line with the SNC’s guidelines. Private schools are free to utilize whatever textbooks they wish within the aforementioned context. For example, if the curriculum states that students should be able to point out Pakistan on a map of the words, the syllabus can define whatever methodology they deem most suitable to achieve this learning goal.
All the private publishers are required to get approved their textbooks from provincial textbook bodies before circulating to the market/ schools. In this regard Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has set agreed upon timelines for publishers to submit their books from 30th April to 31st May, 2021. Corresponding NOCs will be issued from 31st May to 30th June, 2021.
Finally schools are allowed to and may develop their own standards and methodologies to teach the subjects from any textbook that wins an NOC and general approvals fromt he concerned authorities.
