Pakistan’s First Floating Solar Power Project will be implemented in Tarbela Dam
According to sources, WAPDA is all set to start country’s first floating solar power project in Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha barrages that would help add 300 megawatts of low-cost electricity in the national grid. Two projects each of 150MW capacity would be installed in Tarbela and Ghazi Barotha with a cost of $325 million.
The idea of floating solar power plants are already implemented by different countries with successful benchmarks. In this list Korea had first launched its floating solar power project with a capacity of just 465 KW. Secondly Japan had the largest number of floating solar power projects. China is currently held the two biggest floating solar power plants in the world with cumulative capacity of 60MW.
Floating solar plant are also gaining increased popularity due to the fact that they are seen as a solution to problems with clean and environmental friendly energy resources.
