A massive fire has engulfed pine forests in Koh-e-Sulaiman Range on the border of Balochistan and KP. The Shar Ghalaeye and Sur Luki village mountains of Sherani district are most affected.
According to local residents three people from Samzai and Sharghali villages were burnt to death. “Two of them are beyond recognition.” Countless animals have also died due to fire and heat.
Two helicopters are being used to control the fire. However all government departments have failed to control its spread.
Koh-e-Sulaiman is also known for being the world’s largest chilghoza (pine nut) forest on higher elevations. The 26,000-hectare forest produces around 640,000 kilogrammes of chilghozas annually.
