BMW unveils the brand new technology to its motors that can change the color of outer according to the desire of the user. This technology is likely a science fiction movie.
BMW motors unveil the E Ink Technology to its electric model BMW IX Flow. This Electric motor can change the color with a single button. User can personalize the color of outer with their desires at any time.
This unusual technology, based on electrophoretic, makes it possible to modulate the color pigments of the exterior of the vehicle according to desires. E Ink is composed of microcapsules that contain negatively charged white pigments and positively charged black pigments. Thanks to stimulation by electrical signals, these pigments accumulate on the surface of the microcapsule, making it possible to change the hue of the car.
The traveler will also be able to adjust the color of the surface of his vehicle according to the intensity of light and the outside temperature, thus optimizing the reflections of the sun’s rays and the absorption of thermal energy.
In addition to personalization, a variable exterior also contributes to the efficiency of the vehicle. By nature, a white exterior on hot days would reflect sunlight and conversely, a black exterior on cold days would absorb the sunlight. This could reduce the amount of energy the vehicle uses for heating and cooling the interior.
Technology behind the E Ink System
The electronic ink has several tiny microcapsules with negatively charged white and black pigments. These microcapsules are as thick as human hair. By giving the proper stimulation using an electric current, the surface can change color to black or white.
In this vehicle, you can change the paint scheme at the touch of a button. However, don’t expect to see this vehicle at your local BMW dealership anytime soon, as this is just an advanced research and design project. Not to mention the durability of this high-tech paint and if it can withstand extreme weather conditions.
