Shares of Alibaba Group records biggest drop in a month after the Wall Street Journal reported that officials in Beijing summoned the group’s online data storage and management (“cloud”) as part of an investigation into possible exceptional misuse of data.
A unknown hacker has claimed that he have breached and have got the personal information of one billion Chinese citizens belong to Shanghai Police.
According to the Wall Street Journal, which cites cybersecurity researchers, the management of this database was left freely available on the Internet for more than a year without any password protection.
Based on police information, researchers interviewed by the newspaper said the data was hosted on Alibaba’s “cloud” platform.
“In 2022, the Shanghai National Police (SHGA) database was leaked. This database contains many TB of data and information on Billions of Chinese citizen,” the post said.
“Databases contain information on 1 Billion Chinese national residents and several billion case records, including: name, address, birthplace, national ID number, mobile number, all crime/case details.”
