Neelum-Jehlum Hydropower Plants faces technical fault and shut down its operations. The plant has been non-operational since July 06 due to a technical fault which has suspended the supply of electricity to the national grid. The fault is yet to be identified because the tunnel examination can only be undergone after clearing the tunnel. The Tunnel is 3.5 km long which will require at least a month to be clear.
The tunnel is used to pump water from the Neelum-Jhelum River to the power plant to generate electricity. The water from tunnel will be pumped back to the river for the purpose to trace blockage.
The sources said Wapda had also engaged consultants to resolve the issue. However, there is no deadline to resolve the issue so far, the water resources division officials said.
