Tesla forced to ‘recall’ 1.1 million vehicles in China to address braking problems

Tesla has been forced to recall 1.1 million vehicles in China to address braking problems. The recall is the largest in Tesla’s history. The affected vehicles are all Teslas that were manufactured between January 2019 and April 2023.

The recall is due to a software issue that can cause the cars to brake suddenly and unexpectedly. This can be dangerous, especially in traffic or at high speeds. Tesla has said that it will be issuing a software update to fix the issue. The update will be available over-the-air, so owners will not need to take their cars to a service center.

This is not the first time that Tesla has been forced to recall vehicles in China. In 2021, the company recalled 300,000 vehicles for a software issue that could cause the cars to accelerate unexpectedly.

The recall is a setback for Tesla, which has been trying to expand its sales in China. The company has been facing increasing competition from local automakers, such as BYD and Nio.

The recall is also a reminder of the challenges of developing and manufacturing electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are more complex than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, and they are more susceptible to software problems.

Tesla is not the only automaker that has been forced to recall electric vehicles. In 2021, General Motors recalled 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt EVs due to a battery fire risk.

The recall of Tesla’s vehicles in China is a reminder of the importance of safety when it comes to electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are still a relatively new technology, and there is still more that we need to learn about them.
