The Punjab Home Department has directed all private guesthouses in the province to register with the government’s “Hotel Eye” software by June 15, 2025, as part of a broader effort to improve monitoring of temporary residences and strengthen public safety.
Expanded Monitoring Requirements
Previously limited to registered hotels, the “Hotel Eye” system will now include all guesthouses and residential service providers operating in Punjab. The home department has launched a dedicated portal to manage the registration process and facilitate compliance.
A spokesperson for the department said the move aims to support crime prevention efforts, particularly by improving digital verification of local and foreign guests. “The initiative has been taken to prevent terrorism, crime, and other illegal activities,” the spokesperson stated.

Digital Records of Guest Data
Under the new directive, all private guesthouses must record and upload guest data using the Hotel Eye platform. This includes individuals staying in properties booked through Airbnb, Booking.com, Hotels.com, and similar international services. Guest information must be entered into the system upon arrival.
Legal Action for Non-Compliance
Facilities that fail to register or comply with the reporting requirement will face legal action under the Punjab Information of Temporary Residence Act, 2015. The law allows the provincial government to monitor and regulate temporary lodging arrangements for security purposes.
Objective and Scope
The Home Department maintains that the digital system will improve coordination between lodging providers and law enforcement agencies. By expanding beyond hotels to include private guesthouses, the province seeks to close gaps in its tracking of short-term accommodations.
The directive is effective immediately, with a hard deadline for registration set for June 15, 2025.
