Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to launch an immediate crackdown on unregistered restaurants and wedding halls across the province.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Monday, Maryam Nawaz approved the registration of all hospitality businesses—large and small—stating that tax evasion under the guise of informality will no longer be tolerated.

Rejecting all proposals for new tax increases, the Chief Minister stressed that the government’s priority is to expand the tax base rather than impose additional burdens on already taxed citizens. “A person earning Rs 200,000 pays tax, while someone making crores walks free? That won’t be allowed,” she said, highlighting the need for a fairer system.

Maryam Nawaz instructed the Punjab Revenue Authority, Mines and Minerals Department, and other relevant agencies to identify new revenue streams and ensure strict compliance among businesses. She underscored that voluntary taxpayers should not be penalized while evaders remain unchecked.

Reaffirming her commitment to fiscal reform, Maryam Nawaz assured that her administration will pursue fair taxation and inclusive economic governance without increasing financial pressure on ordinary people.
