Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday unveiled a broad set of education reforms during a speech at the Laptop and Honahar Scholarship distribution ceremony at the University of Sargodha.

In her address, the chief minister pledged to expand merit-based scholarships starting in the upcoming academic year. The move is aimed at increasing access to higher education and supporting talented students across Punjab, regardless of their financial background.

    Major Infrastructure Initiatives

Maryam Nawaz also outlined a large-scale plan to upgrade public education infrastructure, including:

Installation of electric bike charging stations in educational institutions

Establishment of AI and computer labs in 6,000 government schools

Construction of 50,000 new classrooms across the province

Provision of chairs, desks, and essential furniture to every public school

“My goal is to see students of government schools equal, if not superior, to those in private institutions,” she said, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to equitable education opportunities.

The chief minister used the occasion to address broader civic concerns as well, urging students to be cautious with online information. “Verify every piece of news before sharing it,” she advised, highlighting the importance of responsible freedom of expression in the digital age.

Maryam Nawaz concluded her speech by emphasizing the importance of inclusive education and her commitment to supporting all students. “My desire is to see every boy and girl in Punjab succeed,” she said.
