Punjab Govt Boosts Solar Energy Promotion to Combat Energy Crisis

During a meeting with the executive committee of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Caretaker Minister for Industries, Commerce, Skills Development, and Energy, MS Tanvir, announced the government’s approval for a solar system factory to generate 5 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This significant increase in capacity surpasses the previous limit of 1 MW.

He acknowledged that the shutdown of factories due to energy and other issues is a significant concern, and the provincial government is in talks with the federal government to find viable solutions.

Furthermore, he mentioned the efforts being made to provide electricity to industries through a plant running on Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) in Jhang, which is generating 1,240 MW of electricity.

The minister also addressed other issues raised by the industrialists, including the imposition of a 17% tax on animal feed by the federal government and concerns related to corporate farming and agriculture.

Additionally, the minister urged industrialists to support the installation of more filtration plants to ensure the provision of clean drinking water to the citizens.

Expressing concern over the closure of factories by the Excise and Taxation Department, the minister emphasized the importance of fostering open communication between the department and industrialists who are willing to fulfill their tax obligations.
