Mosques turn down loudspeaker volume after Hindu demands

Indians government has put a limit on loudspeaker volume after the demands raised by Raj Thackeray a leader of regional Hindu party. He demanded that mosques and other places of worship kept within allowed noise limits. He also said that his followers would chant Hindu prayers outside mosques in protest, if the demands are not fulfilled.

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), has defined permissible limits of loudspeaker volume for different zones.

The decibel levels mandated in an industrial area are 75 dBA in the day and 70 dBA at night; in commercial area, they are 65 dBA in the day and 55 dBA at night; in residential area, 55 dBA in the day and 45 dBA at night; and in the silence zone, 50 dBA in the day and 40 dBA at night, informed traffic police officials.
