First case of Omicron sub-variant detected in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) to be immediately restored after Pakistan reported the first case of Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, the premier took notice of the new variant of Omicron and its growing cases. “He has also sought a report from the National Institute of Health (NIH) over the current Covid-19 situation,” it said.

First patient of omicron has been detected during genome sequencing at airport from a passenger traveled to Pakistan from foreign country. The name of the country was not disclosed to the sources. The patient is feeling well and all his contacts have been quarantined at their home.

The new variant has been continuously spreading in different countries. Although the variant is more transmissible, the good thing is that all the vaccines are effective against it. So we request the masses to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest and those who have been vaccinated, should get their booster shots.
